Pictures Of Drowned 3-year old Syrian Aylan Kurdi Go Viral on Twitter
The shocking image of the lifeless body of a 3-year-old Syrian boy that washed up on one of Turkey's prime tourist resorts, has triggered an emotional social media buzz. The boy was identified by Turkish media as Aylan Kurdi.
The boy is one of twelve confirmed deaths from two boats, carrying a total of 23 refugees, which sank on its way to the Greek island of Kos. Deaths included five children and one woman, two are still missing, seven people have been rescued and two made it to the shore in life jackets.
The hashtag ‘KiyiyaVuranInsanlik’ (translation: humanity washed ashore) became a trending topic on Twitter. In the first few hours after the accident, the image had been retweeted thousands of times, making Aylan a visual symbol of the Mediterranean crisis.
